9th INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF THE DUCHI D’ACQUAVIVA The “International Festival of the Duchi d’Acquaviva” of Atri (Te) proposes a very rich offer of Master Classes and a substantial and qualified season of Concerts of classical music held by the students and the teachers themselves, who will have as their backdrop the most charming views of Atri.Every year the Master Classes offer the students the specialized teaching of illustrious teachers of different training and origin, for the purpose of obtaining real professional competence, by means of teaching activity which constitutes an important opportunity for musical perfecting and an exchange of experiences among the various international Music Schools.Every summer, during the Festival, the city of Atri welcomes about 150 young musicians from all over the world, and it becomes the ideal welcoming centre for this type of laboratory, in which concert-giving activities and teaching find an optimum meeting point, boasting of its relationship between teacher and students through lessons and concerts, providing immediately the proof of the artistic itinerary covered.The quality of the proposed formula and the formative offer, as well the meticulous organization which can already avail itself of remarkable experience, has caused all the participating teachers of the past editions to speak words of praise, and has promptly won the unanimous appreciation of the participating students. It is in this way that the “International Festival of the Duchi d’Acquaviva” is standing out in brief as an important appointment in the Italian musical programming.The Association “Amici della Musica 2000” of Atri, with the realization of the Festival centres other important aims, such as the stimulation of the tourist industry and the artistic promotion of the city of Atri and the whole Abruzzo region.

REGULATION 1. The Association “Amici della Musica 2000” of Atri (Te) sponsored by the Town Hall of Atri, the Province of Teramo, the Abruzzo Region and the Tercas Foundation, proclaims and is organizing the “9th International Festival of the Duchi d’Acquaviva”, open to musicians of any nationality and age, which will take place at Atri from 8th to 31st August 2008. 2. It is possible to enrol in the Master Classes as active students or as listeners. The maximum number of active students will be established by the teacher of the relevant Master Class. In the event of applications exceeding the teacher’s availability, auditions for admission as active students are provided for. Those not admitted will be able to participate in the Master Classes as listeners. The attendance fee for the listeners is set at 25% of the attendance fee for active students. 3. The application for admission must be sent (or sent by e-mail to the address info@amicidellamusica2000.it) within 28th July 2008 (as proof the date of the postmark of the letter’s departure) to the “Amici della Musica 2000” Association, Piazza S. Marina, 1 - 64032 Casoli di Atri (Te) Italy, complete in every part and with a passport-size photograph and the copy of the receipt for payment of € 50 for the entrance fee, to be made by postal order addressed to the “Amici della Musica 2000” Association; or by bank transfer addressed to the “Amici della Musica 2000” Association, Iban IT73O0708676750000000301130, Swift Code ICRAITRRU60. The entrance fee will be refunded only if the Master Class should be annulled. Applications that arrive incomplete or after the expiry date will not be accepted. 4. The travel and sojourn expenses are born entirely by the students. 5. The students must present themselves at 9 a.m. on the first day of the chosen Master Class at the Festival secretary’s office, at the Primary School “L.Radice” in Corso Umberto I, to receive the appropriate information, pay the entire attendance fee and make contact with their teacher. 6. The lessons will be held every day, morning and afternoon, at the Primary School, the Theatre and the S. Agostino Auditorium. Each teacher, in agreement with his own students, will draw up an internal timetable for the daily lessons. 7. For the Master Classes in singing and string and wind instruments the presence of an accompanying pianist is arranged for. Study classrooms provided with a piano will be made available to the students at the Primary School. Each students must provide his own music stand. 8. The students who particularly distinguish themselves, after the teacher’s recommendation, will participate in the final Concert of the relevant Master Class. It is appropriate to wear concert dress. All students will receive a Participation Diploma. 9. The Concerts will take place at Atri at the Theatre and the S. Agostino Auditorium. The realization of CDs containing the best performances of the Festival Concerts is contemplated. 10. The students will not be able to advance any financial claim or of any other sort for the performances carried out in the Concerts nor for any possible use made on the radio or television, or produced by any other reproduction technique, of the same performances. 11. The Association declines all responsibility in the event of theft, damage and accidents to persons during the course of the Festival. 12. The Association reserves the right to make changes to the present regulation. In that case, it will see to it that the interested parties are informed promptly. 13. Participation in the Festival implies the complete and unreserved acceptance of the present regulation. The Court of Teramo is competent for any controversy.

AUDITION DE LA CLASSE DE COR ET DE LA CLASSE DE VIOLONCELLE Le 17 MARS à 18h 30Auditorium Remouchamps Cher(s) parent(s), conjoints, conjointes merci de venir nous écouter, accompagnés des grands-parents, frères et sœurs, amis et voisins pour encourager nos talentueux cornistes! (et violoncellistes) Valentin et Quentin (F3) vous présenteront leurs morceaux d’examen, accompagnés pour la première fois par un vrai piano!Au piano : Isabelle Schmit.Egalement accompagné par Isabelle, Xavier vous interprétera son examen de T1.Laurent a préparé une pièce pour cor et CD.Claudine, Joanna et Sophie joueront des trios de la renaissance.Julien et Bernadette se joindront à elles pour jouer March Brisk en quintette de cors. On alternera les pièces avec les élèves violoncellistes de la classe de Sophie Pirard. On devrait terminer tous ensemble avec un air écossais.... Qu'est ce qu'un cor, finalement?
L'instrument est fondamentalement intrigant: pourquoi les cornistes ont-ils toujours la main fourrée dans le pavillon? Pourquoi font-ils tournicoter leur instrument? Pourquoi le Guiness des Records le considère t'il le plus difficile des instruments? Pourquoi serait-ce un instrument divin? etc, etc. Une violoniste et un altiste mènent l'enquête, voici les résultats:
¤ Comment fait-on une note?
Un des cornistes de l'ensemble me confie qu'il suffit de transmettre l'info aux lèvres et leur demander de vibrer à la fréquence de la note souhaitée. Petit hic, parfois un ré, voire un do# peut sortir à la place d'un mi, même à leur niveau. Ce qui vaut à l'instrument le surnom affectueux de roi des canards (pour comparaison, au violon, au pire des cas votre mi aura un léger arrière-goût de ré# ou de fa, mais les dégâts sont en général limités). Je ne serais pas particulièrement étonnée qu'on trouve des ressemblances entre le fonctionnement du cerveau des yogis et des cornistes. Certains couac typiques au cor sont d'ailleurs représentés dans la Plaisanterie Musicale de Mozart.
¤ Mais les petites palettes ne servent pas à changer la hauteur du son?
Pas directement, si j'ai bien compris. Tout comme un shampoing, le cor bénéficie d'un système 3 en 1, activé par ces bitoniaux. Un peu comme si j'appuyais sur un bouton magique sur mon violon, qui se transformerait alors en alto, ou en violonet.
¤ Comment communique-t'on avec un corniste?
C'est compliqué. Le lascar a donc trois instruments au lieu d'un: un cor en fa, un cor en si b, et un cor en do. Si vous lui demandez de jouer un do, il vous jouera un sol. S'il joue faux, il peut même vous jouer un fa, ou un la, selon son humeur. Si vous insistez, il faudra lui demander de jouer un sol, pour obtenir ce do. Mais le corniste ne saura toujours pas sur quel cor vous souhaitez cette note. S'il choisit de jouer ce sol sur un autre cor, qui sait ce qu'il sortira? Un si? Il faudra donc lui demander un sol en fa, par exemple. Le corniste de base est donc non seulement yogi, mais trilingue d'office2.
¤ Que triturent-ils dans le pavillon?
J'ai longtemps pensé qu'ils avaient une petite éponge dans la main pour écoper la bave condensation dans le pavillon. Faux. Cela permet de changer le timbre de l'instrument, mais aussi la hauteur, un léger mouvement de la main, et bam! un demi-ton en plus ou en moins (au violon, on peut gigoter un peu sans que ceci ait un impact direct sur la justesse)
¤ Mais comment les cornistes se débarrassent-ils donc de la ba condensation accumulée dans l'instrument?
En le faisant tourner, comme Lucky Luke et son revolver. Geste qui n'a pas son équivalent au violon, et c'est regrettable. Ça doit détendre, c'est élégant...
¤ Quelle est la hantise de l'apprenti corniste?
L'appareil dentaire, me dit-on. Le petit corniste qui sort de l'orthodontiste doit se résigner a ne plus pouvoir tirer un son de son instrument pendant de longs mois. (au violon, etc....)
¤ Trouve t'on des cornistes en milieu urbain?
La plupart de ceux avec qui j'ai eu le plaisir de discuter me disent avoir grandi dans une maison, non pas un appartement. Ce qui n'empêche pas les voisins de profiter des gammes des petits cornistes.
¤ Les cornistes ont-ils besoin d'un cor pour jouer du cor?
Paradoxalement, non. Le corniste, muni d'une imagination d'enfant, peut transformer des objets du quotidien en parfaits cors d'harmonie. (merci Djac pr la vidéo)
¤ Pourquoi le cor est-il un instrument divin?
